When you think about going on a family vacation, you normally don’t associate that with a photography session, but I did just that! When on a vacation, whether with your wife or partner, it’s usually because you want to relax and enjoy yourself. Not for me! On a recent family cabin trip to beautiful South Lake Tahoe, I took advantage of the location and had a mini photo session on the beachy lake with the crystal clear blue water. In the backdrop were snow capped mountains and puffy clouds. How can you say no to that? And, who else better to help me than my two favorite nieces? I’ve photographed these two a dozens times, and they’re always willing to help out. This time around, we added a theme. I know it’s probably been done a gazillion times, but I wanted to try out a new editing style, so we did a vintage theme. I love old photographs and to me, in order for that type of editing to work with a modern photograph, you have to get dressed up and play the part! Also, luckily for us, there was an old river boat in the backdrop and the cabin had a very old beach vintage vibe to it! Here are some of the images from the session.
It’s not my normal editing style, but I don’t want to limit myself. I want to keep up with the times and be able to provide clients with different looks to their images. Hopefully I did just that. What do you think? I stayed true to my photographic style, but changed it up with editing. In this day and age of photoshopping, it’s hard not to play around with it as every photographer now uses it instead of the old school dark rooms. I like my images to stay true to how I saw it at the moment that I shoot it, but photoshop always helps to push the creativity a little further.
A big thanks to my nieces Chrissy, Elizabeth and her finance Torn for helping me out. Also a thank you to my sisters and younger nieces for helping as well. We fought the blowing wind and cold weather to get these fun images! Furthermore, I’d like to say congratulations to Elizabeth and Torn. I will say this was an early pre-engagement session for them. It was all good practice! And, in case anybody is wondering, I did enjoy this mini vacation. We celebrated birthdays, mother’s day, announcements, and just being with FAMILY. I love them to death and being with them at special occasions and places like this really makes life all worthwhile.
