I love to shoot weddings and I love traditional ones, especially when it’s one that’s from my own culture. Meuy and Kao had a western Christian wedding but incorporated a lot of Mien wedding traditions including the vibrant clothing. The day started at the Sheraton hotel where Meuy and Kao got ready and then the bridal photos at the Sacramento State Capitol, and finally we finished with the ceremony and reception at Elks Lodge. They said their I Dos on the green lawn and performed the traditional face cleansing and tea ceremony inside the huge venue when guests entered. A “welcome” and a “thank you for coming” were exchanged for some tea and a nice hand towel. Traditionally, guests would have to “cleanse” their face before entering. Both Meuy and Kao are devoted Christians and loves their church and family, which were both evident at their wedding. This has been so far the largest Mien wedding that I’ve ever covered and also the longest at 13 hours! I was lucky enough to be a part of it and to be able to document their wedding for them. A big congratulations for their marriage!
